Openers look to bat Kent towards victory
Rob Key scored quickly before tea
A BLITZ from Kent’s openers before tea left their County Championship match with Somerset in the balance.

Rob Key and Joe Denly put on 41 without loss from nine overs before the interval to leave the hosts 230 runs from a seventh successive victory in all competitions.

A century partnership between former England players Marcus Trescothick and Ian Blackwell helped Somerset build a useful second innings lead after lunch on day three.

Robbie Joseph continued his fine match by breaking the stranglehold, removing Blackwell for 61. Trescothick was trapped lbw by Ryan McLaren soon afterwards, finally bringing a fine innings to an end on 139.

McLaren and Arafat finished off the tail to bowl out Somerset for 335 and set Kent a victory total of 271.

Key and Denly saw off the Somerset attack before the break and will hope to build a match-winning partnership before the close of play.
