Essential repairs will be carried out at Upnor Castle thanks to a £250,000 grant co-funded by English Heritage and Medway council.
Voids in the stonework of the historic castle are being grouted and tied back to make it secure, while the river walls are set to be bolstered with a lime mortar.
Initial repairs were carried out earlier this year, including work on the roof, gutters and brickwork.
English Heritage’s estates surveyor Karen Richardson said: “Upnor Castle made an enormous contribution to British history, protecting our naval forces against invasion.
“After nearly 450 years it is time for us to repay that debt and we are delighted to be able to fund these essential repairs.”
