Exclusive by Glenn Pearson
Kent will go into next season with a new coaching team after chairman George Kennedy revealed that Graham Ford was unlikely to return after this summer.
The club’s director of cricket is out of contract at the end of the season but all indications earlier in the summer were that the South African, who has turned Kent into arguably the best limited overs side in county cricket, was going to return next season.
The 48-year-old, who joined Kent in 2005, told Kent on Sunday last week he hoped to sort out his future in the coming weeks and that he was hopeful of returning.
However, club chairman George Kennedy has exclusively revealed that the county are actively discussing putting together a new coaching team that will be in place for next season.
He said: “We would love to keep him, but it isn’t just the visa situation to be honest with you. Graham’s personal situation is such that he wants to spend time with his family. He has been completely open with the club with what he wants to do.
"He will be accessible to the club when he goes back to South Africa, but I think we will have a new coaching regime in place for next season and we are talking about that. As soon as we have something concrete to say we will announce that, but people won’t be disappointed, I can assure them of that.”
