Stimson: we don't need to replace Cullip
Mark Stimson called Simon King a natural defender
THE Gillingham squad is strong enough to absorb the loss of Danny Cullip without needing to buy a replacement, according to manager Mark Stimson.

The 31-year-old centre-back left the club this week after failing to agree a new contract.

He joined the club on a short term deal in February and quickly established himself as a vital player in Gills’ attempts to escape relegation trouble.

But Stimson played down the loss and believes he has enough depth in central defence for next season.

He said: “I’m happy with the squad. I’ve got two natural centre-backs in Simon King and Garry Richards, Mark Bentley can play there and we have got Tom Wynter coming up from the youth side. If someone comes out we might sign them but we have got to get on with what we’ve got.”
