A man was sentenced to 90 days behind bars today for breaking his ASBO - less than a month after he was given it.
Medway magistrates banned Andrew Giles, 41, of no fixed address, from entering Chatham town centre for two years at a court hearing last month.
The ASBO was designed to stop him harassing and abusing shoppers and traders.
But just four weeks later the persistent nuisance offender was spotted in Best Street – inside the no-go zone – and arrested.
He was brought before the court again this morning and sent to prison.
Chief Inspector Des Keers, in charge of neighbourhood policing in Medway, said: “This sentence demonstrates that we will take action against those who continue to ignore the conditions of their anti-social behaviour orders.
“I’m confident that with the continued support from local people and the vigilance of my officers, we will enforce acceptable levels of behaviour and make the area a safer one.”
The ASBO prevents Giles from entering a large section of Chatham town centre, including the entire length of Railway Street, and acting in a way that is likely to cause alarm, harassment or distress to others.
