A Safer Kent, discovering the reality of policing
Chief Constable Michael Fuller
Today marks the beginning of a series of articles taking a behind-the-scenes look at Kent Police.

For every crime there is a victim and for every incident attended by one of our 3,640 police officers, there are repercussions that need to be addressed.

Our police officers are responsible for protecting 1.65 million people in Kent and Medway.

KOS Media's newspapers will be look behind the headlines and discover the day-to-day challenges our officers face.

We will meet people whose lives have changed completely due to the drug menace in our society and how Kent Police have helped rebuild their lives – as well as chase the menace from our streets.

We will find out how some of the £257 million of taxpayers’ money a year is spent which will help you have a greater understanding of what goes on and why Kent is one of the safest places to live in the UK.

We will find out some of the measures that are in place which prevent crime and discover some of the technology which is used to make all of our lives safer.

And we will give you the chance to put your questions direct to our Chief Constable Michael Fuller who has laid out clear targets for Kent Police to improve over the next three years.

He said: “There have been significant improvements in our performance over the last two years, which have ensured that Kent and Medway remain among thesafest places to live in the country.

Chief Constable Fuller wants our police to be seen as the best in Britain.

“Our ambition is not only to improve the service that we deliver to Kent and Medway residents each year but to provide an unrivalled service when compared to other police forces.”

Targets include reducing crime and anti-social behaviour and ensuring a high detection rate.

A key target is to increase the visibility of his officers and to see that
public confidence continues to improve and to ensure that victims of crime are properly dealt with.
