Thamesview pupils celebrate
KENT NEWS: GCSE students have come up trumps yet again as Kent students ensure another record-breaking year.

Based on provisional figures 77.7 per cent of youngsters have achieved five A* to C grades – an improvement of 4.7 per cent from last year and 8.6 per cent above the national average.

Just under 60 per cent achieved the key benchmark of five A* to C grades including English and maths, while 27 schools in the National Challenge scheme have now reached the target of at least 30 per cent.

Kent County Council cabinet member for education Cllr Sarah Hohler said: "Kent students have excelled themselves once again.

"There will undoubtedly be celebrations in many households and rightly so. Each year we expect more and more from our young people, and every time they rise to the challenge.

"It is a proud day for them, their schools and everyone at KCC. Their achievements will prepare them for a bright future, be that in further education, employment or training."

Cllr Hohler visited Thamesview School in Gravesham to share their joy at achieving 32 per cent five A* to C grades including English and maths - a massive increase of 14.9 per cent.

Medway Council will not be collating the results of its schools until later this year.
