Knife attack yob handed indefinite jail term

Jailed: Paul Harbour

A thug who slashed a man across the face with a knife five times during a frenzied Christmas Day attack has been jailed indefinitely.

Paul Harbour, 25, of Lobelia Close, Gillingham, told his helpless victim with each horrific stroke "every time you see this, you'll remember me".

Harbour's 37-year-old victim was left with permanent scarring.

The yob pleaded not guilty to wounding with intent, claiming he had acted in self-defence.

However, a jury sitting at Maidstone Crown Court took less than 30 minutes to find him guilty of the charge.

He was sentenced at the same court on Monday, November 29.

The court heard how Harbour and the victim became involved in an argument at a Gillingham house on Friday, December 25, last year.

Harbour was asked to leave the house, at which point the confrontation became physical.

The thug then armed himself with a knife and launched his savage attack.

Officers arrested him in a nearby street and was charged the following day.

Detective Constable Darryll Paulson said: "Harbour showed a clear intent on causing an injury by repeatedly cutting the victim and stating at the time of the incident, "every time you see this, you'll remember me".

"The injuries sustained were serious and have left permanent scarring.'

"We are pleased that the Judge has recognised the severity of the incident and hope that this sentence demonstrates that Kent police in Medway will not tolerate violent incidents of this nature and will deal with offenders robustly."
