FOLKESTONE Invicta have moved into second place in Ryman South after goals from Jimmy Jackson and Jimmy Dryden set up a victory against Metropolitan Police at the Buzzlines Stadium last night.
Neil Cugley’s side were stronger throughout the match and the 2-0 victory helped erase the memory of their FA Cup exit to Horsham at the weekend.
Former Margate midfielder Jackson gave Invicta the lead with a strike from 15 yards on 41 minutes.
A Dryden penalty on 88 minutes wrapped up the three points for Invicta and their sixth victory of the season in the process.
Whitstable Town have moved off the bottom of the division with a 2-1 win at Corinthian Casuals, thanks to two goals from Dave Cory.
Marc Seager’s side stormed into two-goal lead in the first half, playing their best football of the season so far.
However, they had to endure a nervous finish to grab all three points, as Casuals scored a penalty with 10 minutes remaining.
The Oystermen held out to claim only their second league win of the season.
Ashford Town were unable to build on their win at Metropolitan Police, as they fell to a 3-2 defeat at The Homelands.
Town found themselves three goals down at half-time in one of their worst performances of the season.
Manager Steve Lovell made three substitutions at the interval but it back-fired as his side were reduced to 10 men as Jimmy Bottle picked up a nasty head injury.
With 10 men Town bossed the second half scoring two goals in as many minutes from debutant striker Claude Senla.
In the dying minutes Ashford could have equalised, but the Chipstead defence cleared off the line twice.
In Ryman North, Chatham Town came back from a goal down to salvage a point in a 1-1 draw with Great Wakering Rovers.
Steve Binks’ side found themselves behind after just 30 seconds as Ben Hudson tapped past goalkeeper James Smith.
In the second half Chatham secured a point with a goal from Justin Ascheri.
