Stunning setting of Mote Park scores with stars
The Hoosiers
Robyn speaking to Yourkenttv

The Hoosiers were really impressed with Maidstone and really want to come back after their main stage performance at the Big Weekend.

The three-piece pop band added that they want to go to Dickens World in Chatham on their next visit to Kent.

They enjoyed taking part in the Radio 1 festival at Mote Park, but joked that the crowd were either saving themselves for Madonna or were tired after Usher’s opening set.

Lead singer Irwin Sparkes said: “It was hard going on the main stage so early on in the festival, it’s the one day of the year the suns actually come out and in the tent is so hot, you just wouldn’t guess everyone would b so subdued, well it was either that or we were s***.

“I want to come back for my holiday.”

Are you going to check out the introducing stage to see some of the latest new talent? “No, it’s all about the old talent and what’s happening now.”

Swedish singer Robyn also found it quite hard performing on the main stage mid-afternoon, but was impressed by the beauty of Mote Park.

She said: “It was fun, it was good. I had some drummer girls from London and I brought some costumes from Sweden.

“The crowd was a little relaxed, but I guess they will have some beers and wait for Madonna.

“I was also very hot in my space suit for the first song.”

She added: “I have only seen the park in Maidstone, but it is beautiful. It is nice to be here early in the summer to see it all green after the rain.”

Asked who she would like to see during the festival, Robyn said: “I would like to see Madonna, but have to go back to London to fly to America.

“I watched Usher on the main stage. I think he is a really good performer.”

Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley was also enjoying the glorious weather for the Big Weekend.

She said: “It’s great, I’m really looking forward to seeing the Guillemots and We Are Scientists.

“I was in New York last week and saw Madonna’s show, which is going to be great.”
