Expected traffic chaos in Maidstone failed to materialise on Saturday as thousands of music fans made their way to Radio 1’s Big Weekend festival at Mote Park.
In the weeks leading up to the free event, fears had been expressed the county town could grind to a halt as around 17,000 people headed to the event.
But the warnings to take public transport and utilise the park and ride sites at London Road and Sittingbourne Road appear to have been heeded.
In the hours leading up to the festival gates opening at noon, the Sittingbourne Road site had steady traffic and there were no hold-ups as feared on the M20 and M2.
The good weather appeared to keep the huge crowds in good spirits and there were no major incidents as fans made their way to the venue.
The concert is due to finish on Saturday night with headliner Madonna finishing off a 45-minute set at around 10pm.
