Colin Murray talks to Jon Coates
The Big Weekend in Maidstone has been a big hit with the stars taking part saying it has been the most chilled out in its eight-year history.
The second day of the free music festival got under way this afternoon with Adele on the main stage and Black Kids doing an energy charged set on the In New Music We Trust stage.
Radio 1 DJ Colin Murray spoke to Yourmaidstone news editor Jon Coates after watching the Black Kids perform.
He said: “The Black Kids were my highlight of the festival so far, they were amazing.
“The Big Weekend in Maidstone has been great, if I was god it would have been four degrees colder, but it’s been wonderful and we all love to complain.
“I have been at the In New Music We Trust stage all weekend and it’s great not to be doing a mainstream show any more so I can listen to the music I love.
“I prefer today so far. A lot of people came yesterday just for Madonna. Today is quite an indie/dance day and it’s just about the acts.”
Colin added: “I am looking forward to seeing Pendulum, they are really good live. I will see the Zutons later as well.
“I am really enjoying being in Maidstone. The taxi drivers are really friendly and the people really chilled out.
“It’s weird – Big Weekends always change depending on the weather. If it hot you do not get people jumping up and down and South England is much more laid back than the crowds in Scotland, where everyone is screaming the second you get off the bus.
“For Maidstone it has been really laid back, there has not been people getting really drunk and throwing up. Everyone has been having a good laugh, I love it.
“This has definitely been the most laid back and civilised Big Weekend I have been to.”
