Key finds it tough against Black Caps
Robert Key scored 24 for the Lions
ROB Key battled valiantly to press his claims for a Test spot on the opening day of England Lions’ clash with the touring New Zealanders at the Rose Bowl.

Key, captaining the Lions in the three-day game, won the toss and elected to bat against a near strength Black Caps attack.

The Kent skipper and opening partner Michael Carberry, found it tough work against the Kiwi’s seam bowlers, scoring just 49 from 29 naggingly accurate overs.

However, Key fell shortly after lunch for 24 as he became one of three Chris Martin wickets.

The Lions slumped to 89 for five but a partnership of 81 between Luke Wright and Adil Rashid gave the scoreboard a healthier look to it.

Wright, the Sussex all-rounder, scored an excellent 120 in front of the watching England selector, Geoff Miller as the Lions ended up 280 all out.
