Dover Athletic’s bid to bring in reinforcements before the loan deadline has been unsuccessful after missing out on Gillingham’s Tom Wynter and Mark McCammon.
With left-back Dean Hill and striker Frannie Collin suffering from injuries, Dover boss Andy Hessenthaler was keen to add to his squad for their crucial Blue Square South run in as the Whites look to secure a play-off spot.
The Dover boss identified a number of targets, including out of favor Gillingham striker McCammon and young full-back Wynter, who has already enjoyed a spell at Crabble this season.
Hessenthaler admitted he was disappointed to miss out on the pair, but is confident he has a strong enough squad to battle through the final five games of the season.
He said: “Unfortunately we have not been able to bring anyone in, but it wasn’t for the lack of trying. We identified a number of players, but one player who was interested in coming to us didn’t want to make the journey, while the other - Mark McCammon - didn’t want to come to us.
“We did try and get Tom Wynter and Gills manager Mark Stimson said he could come if their other defender Josh Gowling recovered from an injury, but unfortunately Josh didn’t recover in time. We have still got a good squad and Frannie Collin should be back sooner than we thought, so that is a boost.”
Dover face a packed Bank Holiday weekend starting with a home game against Eastleigh on Saturday, followed by a trip to play-off rivals Welling United on Monday.
