Great Wakering Rovers 1-1 Chatham Town
JUSTIN Ascheri’s second half strike earned Chatham Town a deserved point at Great Wakering Rovers last night.
The Chats’ pre-match preparations were hampered as three players were held up in traffic and only arrived at the ground 15 minutes before kick-off.
Their woes deepened as a defensive mix-up led to the home side taking the lead inside 30 seconds.
But Town recovered from the setback and with better finishing would have been level before the break.
The breakthrough came in the second half, when debutant Andy Burke found Ascheri in the area and the striker showed great poise to turn and shoot low for the equaliser.
Chats boss Steve Binks said: “It was a thoroughly deserved point. Our away performances are probably a little better than at home at the moment, I think we are set up quite well to counter attack.
“It’s just sloppy mistakes that are costing us at the moment. We are playing good football but not taking our chances and then we make a mistake at the back which gives us problems, but we are working on it.”
Chats face a difficult trip to Folkestone Invicta on Saturday in the FA Trophy.
Binks is looking for a new first team coach after Alan Collins left for personal reasons, while winger Steve Hafner has also departed.
